Odyssey Chicago River

140ft x 30ft x 5.5ft One Deck Dinner Cruise Vessel

Odyssey Chicago River

ODYSSEY CHICAGO RIVER was recently delivered to Entertainment Cruises at their Chicago, IL location.  Operating year-round from a new dock on the Chicago Riverwalk near the Columbus Avenue bridge, the 140’ Odyssey Chicago River features a complete glass enclosed dining on the main deck level that can seat up to 200 passengers, along with exterior observation spaces at the bow and stern. Introducing an entirely new passenger experience to the city, the single passenger deck was custom-designed to enable the vessel to navigate the low bridges on the Chicago River with an air draft of  17 ft., while maintaining a comfortably high ceiling in the dining area. The unique glass-enclosed passenger space, combines an elegant dining experience with a spectacular 360-degree panoramic perspective of the architecture along the Chicago River.

The vessel was designed by DeJONG & LEBET, INC, Naval Architects, Jacksonville, FL.  Odyssey Chicago River is certificated by the US Coast Guard under Subchapter K.  She carries a stability letter for 225 passengers plus 8 crew on a protected waters route.  The vessel was built by J&M Metal Works, Green Cove Springs, FL.  Interior Architecture for the vessel was provided by Matter Interiors.

Odyssey Chicago River is powered by a pair of John Deere 6135 keel-cooled main engines developing 425 HP @ 1900 rpm through Twin Disc MGX-5114 reduction gears.  The engines drive propellers furnished by HS Marine.  Electrical power is provided by a pair of John Deere 6090 generator sets developing 200 kW each.  Propulsion engines and generator sets were furnished by Kennedy Engine Co.  The vessel also has an electric-drive Wesmar 125 HP bow thruster.  An added feature of the Twin Disc gears and engine controls allows the Captain to reduce shaft rpm down to 50 rpm or lower, allowing improved maneuvering, station-keeping and docking capability.

To counter challenging climate conditions in summer and winter, the vessel was fitted with  a 90-ton chilled water system furnished by Dometic.  The system is reverse cycle for lower heating demands, and electric duct heaters for the colder days in Chicago. The glass design is double pane with a tint, engineered and provided by Atlantech. Additionally, Odyssey Chicago River is fitted with fully automated sheer blinds that provide protection from the sun without impacting on passenger visibility. Combined, these features ensure the vessel is able to ensure passenger comfort in all weather conditions.

With main deck space at a premium, the galley and heads are located below decks.  The vessel features a generous  700 sq.ft. commercial galley.  Galley design was a collaboration between Entertainment Cruises and Boelter-Chicago.
