GOVERNOR JAMES BAXTER HUNT JRThe ferry m/v GOVERNOR JAMES BAXTER HUNT JR was built in 1984 as a subchapter H vessel for the North Carolina DOT Ferry Division. The vessel was lengthened in 1999 by the addition of a 29'-9" midbody plug. Then in 2009 the state was required to bring the vessel back under the jurisdiction of the USCG again as a subchapter H vessel. This is when DeJong and Lebet got involved, being contracted to provide assistance with the increased stability standards and strength requirements which resulted from the lengthening. The vessel runs in Currituck Sound on the Knotts Island route. This River Class vessel measures 159.25x40x9 feet, carries up to 20 vehicles and 150 passengers and is affiliated with UNC Greensboro, thus the colors.
